These days you cannot be in a conversation using words such as obsolete and dogmatic without being labelled pretentious. I get it that some people could use fancy words to try to act more intelligent then they are or to impress the person they're talking to but why do people immediately jump to the conclusion that someone is pretentious when they use a couple of choice "big words?"
Wouldn't it be great if we actually tried to learn a new word from an encounter where a friend/person uses a big word? Don't all words in the English language have a meaning and purpose and therefore can be used if a situation requires it?
It's so much easier to adopt slang and the new trendy twitter speak of the month than it is for us to use a new word we have learnt from a book or someone.
