This is wholesome and good, but I think it's also pretty funny how he just picks and holds up a baby deer one-handedly like it's a football or something.
This scene, the way you described it is also the famous scene of a very popular South Indian movie called Bahubali. There it's a mother holding her baby up.
Sorry to bring down the mood but there are some fakes out there who put these animals into the situation for views, it happens in a very few countries that donβt have animal abuse protection. But I try not to think about it
I saved a spider in my class to show my students (kindergarten) the sanctity of animal life. We went outside together to release it. It was immediately grabbed by a bee and taken away. I told my students that the bee was taking the spider back to its mother.
Haha couldβve been a hornet but it seemed rather small (the spider was very small too). I think they believed it because they generally believed whatever I told them- we once saw two pigs getting it on at a farm field trip and they believed me when I told them the pigs were just βdancingβ lol
I mean I doubt momma deer stuck around so if this boy just left it in the woods it's bear food. It would survive if brought to some animals rehabilitation thing
The first day of ice rescue school, they taught us to ALWAYS go retrieve animals when someone calls 911. The reason? Statistically in my coverage area, if you didnβt, a bystander would go out after the rescue truck left, and then youβd be back to retrieve a frozen person and a slightly more frozen schnauzer.
It's called hunting. Lots of people around the world do it to survive.
You sound privileged as fuck bruv should count yourself lucky if you have the luxury of maintaining a vegan diet and getting all the nutrients you need.
Some people in rural/poor areas truly don't have the ability to survive without eating meat. Being vegan is truly a privilege and alot of people forget that the ability to eat vegan/cruelty free foods is a western thing mainly because we have the means to make that possible.
For example, many asian countries eat rat/squirrel, something most westerners are disgusted at. They do this because that's litterally what's available. It gets worse when you consider places like rural Africa where very little grows due to the climate.
I'm all for the kid saving the fawn, however I would like to point out that the river in the picture is not in flood. Flooded rivers are always brown and turbulent. The water in the picture is greenish and calm on the surface. Also you can see the opposite bank and the river is nowhere near bankful. Kid did a good deed, frankly I'm glad it wasnt actually in flood because all parties involved would likely have died.
The second article says that the rivers were high and flooding at the time due to heavy rains. So while most people would look at that river and say "its flooded and dangerous" a person used to it would say "no it's high but look at the water its calm enough to swim" that's apparently why the young man went in. For the exact same point. While everybody else was worried if he would live.
So yeah you're both right, and no hes not a monster, he didn't eat it. I know it makes most people feel better that the world is as dark as their hope, but it's not always.
The quality of the pictures and the story they tell of a boy saving a defenseless deer from a river it wouldβve died in; might have something to do about it. Itβs better than when international headlines were full of a child throwing tantrums because he couldnβt do whatever he wants as president.
Sounds like you are imagining a flash flood, these are the dangerous types where an unexpected increase in water causes turbulent conditions.
More common are seasonal floods, especially in tropical areas that have a monsoon season. In these areas rivers will consistently increase in size every year. I imagine that is the situation in Bangladesh.
If you look up images of βBangladesh river floodedβ you will see pictures of water that looks EXACTLY like this, but itβs halfway up houses. Iβd venture to say that the Mississippi River might flood a bit different than Bangladesh.
Flooding affects areas differently. The primary river flow will be turbulent and deadly, but the floodplains on either side of the river may be relatively calm and navigable like a temporary lake.
Yep I spent 3 field seasons doing forestry work on the islands in the upper Mississippi river between 2015 and 2018 and have been In many floods. We worked most of the 2015 field season in one flood stage or another. In the 2016 field season we were crossing the river at one point(near Alma Wisconsin iirc) where the main channel was about 2 miles wide and when we started it was smooth as glass, but there had been torrential rainfall upstream and they opened the locks wide. About half way across it went from smooth as glass to 4 foot waves and crazy turbulent water. We were lucky to get across alive. If my wife can find the video in the 30,000 plus pics and videos she took during those adventures I'll post it.
This photo does make it seem very tame, and it very well could be. This is a classic example of journalism at work. However, flooding can hold many unseen dangers, because you can't see what's in the water 9/10 times. The picture is only telling one piece of the story.
This is a nice story, but risked his life? Water looks calm. I'd only say he risked his life if he didn't know how to swim. Cool story, good on the kid that did it, but I don't think he risked his life...
This list goes on and on and on. Don't risk your life and leave your bloated soggy corpse for your family to deal with because "aww, cute thing, I'll be a hero."
Oh, editing to add that downvoting this just perpetuates the hero myth instead of the grim and dangerous reality. You want people to die for instagram likes, keep up your bullshit.
You are 100% correct and there is no way to tell how calm river water is just by looking at a picture. Deer are pretty good swimmers though, even at a young age, so Iβd imagine it wasnβt a great situation if the deer was in need of saving.
They are, we've got what we call teacup islands here, and in the spring, when the river is at its highest, many of the Doe's go to the islands to have their babies in safety.
Then the babies get to swim across it in a few weeks once mom gets tired of it and the river levels start to drop a bit. It's still fast, and deep in spots.
So I absolutely think one should help animals if they can. Personally, I've tried to help lost dogs on many occasions. But I've come to realize that can be very dangerous because a scared dog can be a very dangerous dog. I had a conversation with my husband after we saw a video of a dog getting saved from rushing flood waters. He said he'd for sure jump in and swim to save his dog. I said hell no. I wouldn't do that unless I knew I was protected and safe. I love my dogs, but would I lay down my life for them? Absolutely not. I have family to think about. You can go about your day and be sad that your friendly fur buddy is gone, but if my husband was gone? Things would be a hell of a lot different. If you see a struggling animal, please make sure you are safe first! Its just like why they say on airplanes to secure yourself before the child in an emergency.
You'll find that this is a very controversial opinion on reddit. You get where i'm coming from though.
People make emotional choices about this quickly, and when it comes to water, with poor understanding of risks. Then they die.
Try to point that out and oooooh, the keyboard moralists come out swinging. Hopefully people have vented enough at me that you won't get blasted so much.
Seriously, we give life value... this young man values this deer's life. Pretty sure he wasn't worried about IG or reddit likes. I sincerely hope that you do not have to wish for someone to value you this much to risk themselves to help you out if you need it.
If I did something that stupid and ended up in flood water, unless you have whitewater rescue training and the right equipment, stay on shore. We don't need two corpses.
You're saying that life has value while praising someone who put their own at great risk for a chance to save a fawn. Your argument defeats itself.
As long as you know the risks, it's fine to risk your life. I had a friend who died base jumping (where it was legal to base jump). Was the guy an idiot for base jumping? No, because he absolutely knew the risks. He made a will despite being quite young, knowing that the probability he would die was quite high. He just enjoyed the thrill.
People often risk their lives to save each other or animals, not because they don't know they can die, but because they are comfortable with that risk. I give tens of thousands of dollars to charities devoted to in vitro meat and hundreds of thousands to anti-malaria charities. I am nowhere near rich enough to do that. If a sudden bad event befell me, I would be in a really bad spot, but that's the risk I am taking.
It's fine to note the risks, but you are off-base here. This kid did a noble but risky thing. He is no moron.
I'm surprised at some of the comments here saying that the "kid is dumb".
That mentality is what creates a selfish self-centered "society" around us. People who wont go out of their way to help others but will instead expect people to help them when they are in trouble.
If everyone had that mentality, then their would be no fire fighters, or doctors/nurses dying to save people from Covid. Yes, the kid here is saving a deer and not a human. But if you cannot empathize with saving any life, then you wont even save/protect another human life either.
Most people know the risks when they go out to save others lives. But they do it cause some people have an altruistic nature to help others. They dont do it to get likes online (the kid in the picture most probably doesnt have internet, let alone knows that he is on a reddit post).
I'm surprised at some of the comments here saying that the "kid is dumb".

I've never heard anyone say that at all. The main complaint is that vegans are annoying as fuck. Not that what they're doing isn't good. Your post is an example of how obnoxious they can be
Dinner is almost ready. Thanks to your donations, Rangeet will be able to eat for the first time since the pandemic shut his family out of town thanks to amended caste laws. Sources close to his fire pit confirm that he canβt wait to use the pelt to make a purse to sell in order to buy GME.
The comments on here are full of the most miserable people.
This is a sweet story of a baby deer getting saved and a young boy getting into the waters to save him. No he didn't eat him and yes it's always risky setting into fairly turbulent waters. You never know what might happen.

This incident occurred in 2014 and every article written about it at the time describes the river as "flooding."

If you're right about what constitutes a flood, if anyone's at fault its probably the press. That said OP is just farming karma, so he's lame too.
It can be both.
The second article says that the rivers were high and flooding at the time due to heavy rains.
I've never heard anyone say that at all. The main complaint is that vegans are annoying as fuck. Not that what they're doing isn't good. Your post is an example of how obnoxious they can be
I just enjoy calling out hypocrisy.
Canβt let dinner drown
Plot twist, The kid was just hungry.

Why are yβall celebrating this? His life has 1000x more value than a fucking deer, he shouldnβt have risked his life.
