Thanks for posting this. I'm not worried about downvotes, but I enjoy being vindicated by facts.
I served in Iraq for all of 2005. These issues are close to me. The Iraq war was a fiasco, and it never should have happened. I have a lot of great regret about my participation in that conflict. But that was one about cherry picked intelligence, a stupid one percent doctrine, and bloodlust after 9/11. You can kind of understand why it happened, as much as it was folly that has harmed the entire region and our own country.
The conflict in Libya? It pisses me off in a couple ways.
First is that we were talking about coastal protection for Louisiana, where I live, and this elaborate plan that would transform and save our state was tossed aside and we were told it was too expensive. Then shortly later the Libyan conflict happens, and we spent more in the first month on that conflict than the entire decades long project to protect our wetlands would have cost. People who are pissed right now that Biden bombed Syria before he got us the $2,000 checks he promised should listen to the Martin Luther King speech about the Vietnam War, the one that got him killed.
The second is that everything about the Libya conflict was just surreal and absurd. We're used to fighting to protect our own oil interests. This was a war in which we lead a massive air campaigned and armed sketchy militias to protect the oil interests of France and the United Kingdom. We fought a war for other people's oil. What the fuck is that?
The only reason the American involvement in the conflict in Libya happened was to give the otherwise inconsiquential Hillary Clinton a feather to put in her cap. She thought this was what would make her mark, and justify her becoming President of the United States. Anyone older than twenty at the time knew the humanitarian justification was bullshit. It was a naked political move. The retards in the GOP confirmed this with their Benghazi hearings. More naked political moves. Rather than questioning why the Libyian intervention happened in the first place, they wanted to nail lucifer on a specific inaction.
So the whole thing is tainted from either side, and it is nice to see this lecture. Thanks for posting.
I met him several times in my childhood. He was a family friend and would occasionally email us to let us know he would be appearing in the simpsons or on star trek.
One bright memory I have of him comes from a time when you could walk all the way to the terminal to pick someone up at the airport. Stephen got off the plane and immediately set his wheelchair to the highest setting and just took off toward the airport exit. All his aids and nurses and assistants, as well as my mother and I, were sort of jogging along behind him. It was a huge commotion with shouting adults concerned about security and safety. I think I was 8 or 9 and the way he just took off felt really childish and fun.
He smelled funny and looked funny and I didn't know what to make of him as a child, but even with his electronic voice he put me at ease. He usually has some pre programmed jokes loaded up in his computer. Once he let me goof around with the interface he used to speak, making it say made up words. My mom scolded me but Stephen let me see a twinkle in his eye and gave a grin. Back then he had a little more control of his facial muscles.
There. Now it's like you met him.
Edit: whoa! Thanks for the friendly comments, the platinum and gold, and other badges.
Moving things and people is way different from telling someone to pull the trigger or doing so yourself. The fact that you think they are the same shows just how little you actually understand about the topic.
The real problem is that you think soldiers are out there looking for children to shoot. Most don't even want to shoot their weapons or be in a position to need them, much less shoot at children. I find it absurd that you think military members are seeking that sort of thing in the first place.
I don't and won't feel ashamed for seeking a better life for myself. If you want to be mad at people, be mad at those directing the output of power. Hating people for doing the best that they can with the options they had available is a poor direction to send your energy. Why be mad at a cog in the machine, when you could focus your attention on changing the purpose or operators? It makes no sense.
If you don't like how military power is executed, take it up with the politicians that direct it. The members of the military are tools at the disposal of those politicians. Even if I were to just up and quit, or if tons of us did, that won't change the ideals and goals of those in charge and it would leave a vacuum in the current balance of world powers which would be filled by people much worse than those in charge currently.
If you think you can do away with the military entirely, which is the impression I get from your comments, you are sorely mistaken. Unfortunately, the US military must remain strong to keep the power balance due to the existence of the nuclear industry.
I have never killed anyone nor have I gotten anyone killed.
Not every soldier/sailor/airman goes out with guns shooting foreign kids. The vast majority people are supporting logistical movements and defense exercises. Neither of those support actions kills people.
Also hard to feel insulted or attacked when you can't even build a proper sentence. At least I am using my education....
Yeah Lilith was too sassy for Adam so she got chucked out so God could make a more submissive missus from Adam's bones.
Yahweh is the original incel.
Lead is very heavy for its size (or rather its volume). The only metal that is heavier that I can come up with is diamond (1 gram of diamond weighs like 15 grams), but that would be too expensive.
Pick as many as you like.
If it gets to that point, just adopt. There are plenty of kids without parents. Don't feel the need to have kids just because you might miss out down the road.
It's a bullshit statement; both sides are obviously not the same. This is a transparent effort at damage control on Cruz's part, and they're trying to extrapolate his dishonesty and failure to lead to the actions and intentions of many other people trying to actually do the right thing. It avoids acknowledging why Cruz is wrong, why he's a hypocrite, and that we should continue to expect that from him.
It's "enlightened" centrism because its takes the ideological escape route to avoid critical thinking. It's not a legitimate attempt to find some kind compromise between "do the right thing" and "escape to a Mexican resort community".
This is how a lot of people think, in absolutes.
"Solar??! But what about when it's dark??!" - They don't have to work ALL the time.
"Ride a bike or walk to work? But what about when it's raining?" - Ok, drive to work on those days.
"Accept that some people like the same sex?!" - Yes, but it doesn't make YOU gay.
I'm something of an autist myself, this was great the first 20 times I saw it and will no doubt be great the next 20 times too.
In the real world most people just dont say what they are thinking, social media is the real world as far as what people think.

600,000 dead babies can't say anything.
This kind of shit doesn’t help. There are three kinds of us CIS White Dudes. There are the kind that are allies and I consider myself one of them, and there are the kind that are enemies and they probably always will be. Then there are the kind that could be either, and when they see this kind of hypocrisy and hate, it does not push them to be an ally. It just increases the number of enemies. Fuck Imani Gandy, and for no other reason than the damage she is causing her people, her cause, and her hatred of me, somebody she doesn’t even know.
I refuse to be ashamed because I’m a man that is sexually attracted to women. I refuse to be ashamed because my skin is white. I take accountability for the advantages this gives me, and I take every opportunity to give back so that someday we will be closer to everybody having the same benefit of the doubt that I get simply because of what I look like.
What are you doing, step-lead.
Actually, this is a compounding exponential relationship where every week it compounds the total by 1%.
If every week I found 15% of the money gone from, say, a standard fee based on the amount of money there, I could just as easily calculate, with 8th grade mathematics, that my money has a half life of roughly a month.
omg why not arguWOMENt!!!
(edit: OMG I wasn’t expecting this to take off like that. Thx for the awards and upvotes. I’ve been in Isolation trying to heal from Covid for 6 days and this really brightened my day)
Believing that things like that happen because of the way women dress is incredibly stupid. Rape has always existed throughout history and was never linked to clothing. Blaming the actions of crazy deviants monsters on women is like saying that the rapist did nothing wrong and shouldn't be punished.
