The year 2077. Americaβs suburbs are in ruins, all the guns have been confiscated, and abortions are mandatory. George Soros is cornered by a mob of rebels and beaten within an inch of his life. With his last breath he shutters βHAIL BIDENβ before detonating his suicide vest.
As a Democrat, can confirm. My daughter caught the biggest smallie I've ever seen on a Disney Princess themed Zebco rod and reel combo and a Kastmaster lure. She was four and ran around in circles yelling after we landed it. This is the future we deserve.
It's cause we just witnessed a kid experiencing a core memory. He'll never forget that fish and that moment. And you can clearly see the joy on the older guy's face too. A moment he'll treasure and tell the story about for long to come as well. "..and after we land it, he was so hyped up he starts beating his chest and doin' that floss dance thing, it was amazing haha" how could anyone not love that story. What a great moment.
Itβs these comments that helps me feel normal for being an emotional person. I love watching people succeed and just get what they want, it makes me feel better to witness it
My boy is 22 and a pretty serious bass fisherman. He still does this! And I love it more than I can say. We dod that for him. We taught him to fish. And he still gets that happy with any bigger fish.
Honestly that's my favourite part of fishing. Eating it, I could take or leave, the waiting can get boring, even if the view is gorgeous, but the fight of a catch never gets old. I caught an eel when I was 11, that was one of the hardest catches I've ever landed, and nothing has come close to it since.
Why do they release fish? I understand that some fish are small or endangered, so must be released for conservation reasons, but why a big, healthy fish in a river like that? If you catch more than you can eat right away, you can freeze it. What's the deal?
My dad accidentally caught a 46in Muskie when I was a kid. It was big enough he got his picture in the paper, and they ran an article about how he was a bass fisherman pre fishing a tournament and accidentally caught the biggest Muskie in the state that year.
We usually took our bigger fish, as you had more meat when you took out the bones. However, I will say that some species taste better as a slim build. It's the same for lobsters. Big lobsters are used for canned meat, while the smaller ones are used for single meals. The taste of the smaller ones is preferred over the heavier catches.
I infrequently fish (with my dad). I don't like the taste of fish though. But my dad caught an absolute unit one year and insisted I try some and it was good!
Catch and release is quite a common practice among sport anglers. It's an important part of conservation and maintaining a healthy fishery. Proper catch and release practices decrease mortality rate, but thats a whole other topic.
Big fish tend have good genetics (they lived this long right?), And are more productive breeders than smaller fish.
Also bigger fish in most species aren't actually as good eating as mid sized fish.
I'm quite an avid angler and release 98% of what I catch. Those that I do keep are better eating fish than bass, and have healthy populations in the area.
Edit: Bass fishing circles in particular have quite a strong catch and release culture perpetuated by years of tournies and product promotion. There's something to be said for eco-tourism. A living animal is worth 10x more than a harvested one.
Yeah,. This kid just packed away a boatload of self-esteem and he deserves it - we all do. I like the way the adults reacted too - pleased but not TOO pleased.
Goldeneye and Ken Griffey Jr baseball. Best years of my life. Also, thank you mom. First year as a single mom and she did everything she could to get me/my brother that system.
Same here brother, she was raising 2 absolute dicks of hormonal teenage boys and still surprised me with a PS2 my own, not even to share on Xmas morning.
Iβll never forget it for the rest of my life.
It was my escapism when I was bullied as a kid, literally priceless.
I had a study hall teacher in 7th grade that always was sweet to me dispite me being a bit of a jackass to everyone.. She knew I was a HUGE zelda fan and I was too poor to have Nintendo power magazine but her 20 year old son had a subscription and she would always bring me the 1 issue prior to read during study hall. I knew the Majora's Mask issue of Nintendo power game out and that as soon as the new one was out she was going to bring me the MM one. The day she held up that magazine as I walked in the room and saw the amazing Majora's Mask art on the cover is somthing I'll never forget. I legit remember almost fainting from excitement. I read that thing front to back probably 10000 times. I miss having something like that to look forward to. Video games just dont impress me very much anymore. I think The closest I get to is something when turning the corner on a very very impressive hike will take my breath away, (like my recent trips to Oregon) Other than that, the world feels flat and boring.
Sounds like you need some adrenaline in your life!! I feel like that too but if I do something thatβs mildly dangerous or reckless I see and appreciate life more. Hereβs some examples: going 1+ the speed limit. Ordering EXTRA spicy at Taco Bell and going over a curb really really fast on a bicycle. Just do whatever makes you feel alive the most my brother πππππ
The kid knows what he's doing and is on a pretty serious setup here. Has probably worked very hard for this hog of a bass, his excitement is a long time coming.
Props to the kid for sticking to it and being rewarded, it's a well deserved celebration. looking back I can't imagine sticking to something long enough to celebrate like this
I once caught a small shark when I was about the same age as that kid and I didnβt even get that excited about it. Fucking thing almost took the fishing rod out of my hands. The guide had to grab the rod out of my hands and reel him in.
Imagine minding your own business and all of a sudden youβre yanked out of the water and the last thing you see is a kid Fortnite dancing on you as you close your eyes for your final breath
Itβs like youβre walking, you see a bag of McDonaldβs on the sidewalk and you go βoh nice free sammichβ and as soon as you pick it up youβre sucked up into space. As youβre suffocating from a lack of air you see a giant alien just aggressively dancing over your body.
By the time this kid is 30 this fish will be a whale.... lol but this little guy has become a fisherman for life. Wish everyone could have this feeling
That fish is a whale, guessing 7-9lbs. Very few lifetime bass fisherman, hobbyist, amateur, or pro ever get a chance to see, hook, or catch 10+ pounders.
i've seen fish that size in small lakes here in upstate new york a buinch of times. i've never actually caught one that size though, i'm not trying to downplay that fish, i'd be fuckin stoked if i caught that
isn't there a big difference between 8 and 10? anyway like i said i've never caught any bass as big as that, let alone weighed it, nor i do i usually fish in lakes at all i mostly fish streams, but just by eyeballing it i've seen bass close to that size surfacing or under my boat, but i definitely could be wrong.
Where I'm at, it is frowned upon by a lot of people to keep bass to eat, because they believe they should be released for people chasing personal bests / trophies. They see them more as a sport fish, not an eating fish. I don't exactly agree, but I don't really go fishing for them on purpose either, so I just release them.
Thatβs Keβmari Cooper. As far as I can tell, just started out with him and his dad, Velt, taking vids and pics of their fishing trips. Dad works hard to enjoy time like this with his son. Check out their YouTube and insta.
"Hi my name is Kemari Cooper and im here to show the world that i can bass fish... Ive been fishing since 2yrs old or younger and now im 10yrs and working my pole here in Florida"
From his description in the About section, that last line so innocent this kid, destroyed me.
Just took a peak at his YouTube channel that u/SaulGoodmanJD linked in a comment and that kid really knows how to fish!
Looks like he chases that high all the time and I have no doubt he catches it frequently. Some awesome content uploaded there, very wholesome to see that kind of quality father-son bonding. Not to mention Keβmari has an infectious level of enthusiasm.
Thatβs how you know if youβre an angler. The excitement either hits you or it doesnβt. Judging by this kids reaction, Iβd say heβs going to waste an enormous amount of money of fishing lures and poles over his lifetime. Good times.
That kid is on cloud 9. But teaching someone a skill and seeing them succeed at it... that feels pretty damn good, too. These 3 will be bringing up the memory of that catch to each other for years.
I remember that happened to me when I was young and fishing under the bridges with my father. I was scared to death because I thought I had caught a monster. I refused to bring it in and dad was mildly upset it got away but he loves to tell the story still

People like to catch big fish so I guess it makes sense to release the big fish back.
Also interesting fish to catch might not actually taste good, IDK.
You're on point with both assumptions.
Chucking lures for bass is hell of a lot more fun than bait fishing catfish. Catfish tastes a hell of alot better than bass though.
Musky for example make poor eating, but have almost a cult following of sport anglers.
My dad accidentally caught a 46in Muskie when I was a kid. It was big enough he got his picture in the paper, and they ran an article about how he was a bass fisherman pre fishing a tournament and accidentally caught the biggest Muskie in the state that year.
He got hate mail from Muskie fishermen.
I've never wanted to read someone else's hate mail so badly in my life.

i've seen fish that size in small lakes here in upstate new york a buinch of times. i've never actually caught one that size though, i'm not trying to downplay that fish, i'd be fuckin stoked if i caught that
Confirmed 8
https://www.instagram.com/p/CJV5enmLzsc/
Now go ask 100 bash fisherman to show you proof of them catching 10+
isn't there a big difference between 8 and 10? anyway like i said i've never caught any bass as big as that, let alone weighed it, nor i do i usually fish in lakes at all i mostly fish streams, but just by eyeballing it i've seen bass close to that size surfacing or under my boat, but i definitely could be wrong.
Gets exponentially harder/less common as the weight goes up. There's probably 10 times as many 8 lb fish as there are 10 lbers.
On top of that, 10lb Bass don't get to be 10lb by being stupid or falling for tricks.
...
...
...
...
...
By the time he's tomorrow that fish will be dinner.
Pretty unlikely given the circumstances.
What circumstances?
Looks like tournament catch and release guys, a fish that size is almost always released. Very frowned upon to keep.
...
I've never met anyone that eats bass. Fun to catch though
Seriously? They're tasty
i mostly do trout fishing. i'm pretty sure you have to get the scales off of bass? i always throw bass back cuz i'm too lazy to take the scales off
Don't have to descale, just filet the skin off.
We always just filet them. Little light batter and a swim in hot oil then you're ready to eat.
Agreed!
I've even fried up dirty-pond catfish to make it edible when i was young and more poor and it was tasty.
...
...
...
...
Bass are widely eaten. I've had it once or twice
Maybe its a regional thing. Everyone I know releases bass. I'll only keep trout or salmon
